Reduce Business Electricity Costs
In the coming weeks we are going to be putting together a few blog posts about how to reduce business electricity costs and how organisations can save money on their electrical bills. Any building that is in use 8 – 12 hours a day uses a lot of electricity, consequently any measures that can be implemented to reduce their electrical consumption should be considered. Take a look at our recommendations on how to reduce business electricity, get in touch here if you have any suggestions.
Install Energy Efficient Lighting
A lot of businesses and public buildings use fluorescent tube lighting. Very often fluorescent lighting tubes are not the most energy efficient way of lighting a room. LED’s are widely accepted as the most energy efficient form of lighting. If you switch from fluorescent to LED lighting you will save up to 30% on your lighting expenditure.
If you are lighting external areas such as car parks or exterior walls then changing to LED’s from metal halide or HPS lighting can save you even more on your energy bills.
Lighting Sensors
Many business and organisations have areas of their buildings that aren’t often in use. Normally the lights would be turned on during opening hours incase these areas were needed. By installing motion sensors the lights will turn on when a room is in use. Depending on how many rooms you have and how little they are used this can save you money on you electricity bills.
Turn The Lights Off
Without wanting to sound like a nagging father its really important to turn the lights of when you are not using a space and don’t leave lights on overnight. Just like at home this can save you money on your electricity bill.
Computer Usage
Running a lot of computers consumes a lot of energy. Unfortunately computers running their screen savers barely reduces there energy consumption so make sure to turn of your PC’s whenever they are not being used.
In addition to this when you are planning on upgrading your computer systems choose Energy Star Qualified computers.
Programmable Thermostats
Programmable thermostats allow you to set the temperature of your office at any time of the day or night. Over night on weekends and holidays you can reduce your heating bill by lowering the temperature in your building.
